ONLY ON 3: Some New Hanover Co. fire stations infested with bedbugs

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Some New Hanover County Fire Departments are struggling with a creepy crawly problem and want something done.

According to one firefighter who did not want to be named, the bed bugs have been an issue for over a year and the firefighters have had enough. We’ve been told that multiple stations are infested, including Station 18 in Myrtle Grove, Station 12 on Highway 421 and at Station 11 on Market Street.

Apparently, the stations have tried to kill the pests but have not been able to while still operating from the buildings. The firefighters have had to move where they sleep in order to avoid the bugs, but some are worried the issue will only get worse if something is not done soon.

County Manager Chris Coudriet says the county has made multiple efforts to get rid of the bugs and are still working on solving the problems. He says a bed bug sniffing dog is even being brought in to determine exactly where the bugs are nesting.
