NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Firefighters in North Topsail Beach are undergoing a transition to a new station.
The North Topsail Beach Board of Alderman approved a plan earlier this month to fund a new building for Fire Station No. 2.
During this transition, the fire station will be operating out of a rental home on Island Drive, which is down the street from the station’s current location.
North Topsail Town Manager Alice Derian said the building was long overdue to get a refresh.
“The building that currently sits at grey street, it’s reached the end of its useful lifecycle due to salt air corrosion,” Derian said. “It’s a one-story metal building, it’s just reached the end of its lifecycle.”
Derian said demolition of the old station is planned to begin in mid-Febuary. The new station will be built on the same site and is scheduled to be completed in early 2025.
